This page explains The Japanese-Turkish romanization system.

Romanization rules

Because Turkish has an entirely phonetic alphabet, there are a few rules that do not apply to the Hepburn romanization system.

  • Ü and i are not written when the next letter is k, t, h or p. An ü may be replaced by an ı in this case.
  • An ü is not written when the sentence ends with desü or masü.
  • A syllabic n before b, p or m becomes an m.
  • When the kana i is not the first letter of a word and doesn't come after a syllabic n it is replaced by y.
  • The kana ha is written as va when it is used as a grammatical particle.
  • The kana he is written as e when it is used as a grammatical particle.
  • When a kana ending with o is followed by u, ou is replaced by oğ.
  • An a followed by ー or a may be written as â or aa.
