[edit] Marx from Kirby Superstar
I've never even played this game, but I thought it might be worth noting that her wings look very similar to that of Marx in Kirby superstar. See here: http://www.freewebs.com/kirbyscrib/Marx_wings.jpg

- Maybe it looks similar by accident. The idea of rainbow or seven colors isn't quite special itself, I think. --Masuo64 05:05, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
- I suspect it was but I thought it was interesting. What got me thinking their similar wasn't the rainbows themselves but they way they sort of appear as faceted crystals under a wingspan. - Xvall
[edit] Age
Flandre is currently, according to the timeline that says she was born in 1508, 499 years old. Maybe her age should be updated to reflect the fact that it's been several years since she first appeared. She may never grow up, but her age can't stay the same forever.
Her age reflects how old she was at the time of EoSD which was 2003 according to that timeline. If we had to change her age according to our current time, won't we have to do the same for all the characters we know the age of? Just a thought.
--Ruka
- I suppose it may make more sense to list all ages as being whatever their age was at the time they appeared, but flandre, remilia, Yumemi Okazaki, and Chiyuri Kitashirakawa are actually the only characters we know the exact age of (unless I missed one). Everyone else is either "unknown," "immortal," "at least __," or "less than __." All four of them only appeared in-game once. If we knew the ages of reoccurring characters like reimu then in that case it might not make as much sense to leave the age as whatever they were when they first appeared.
- No, I don't think we actually do know Remilia and Flandre's ages. Remilia is simply "older than 500 years" and Flandre is "locked up for 495 years". Doesn't mean Flandre is exactly 495 years (she has tried attacking humans before). --Psieye
- one time I was going to say that about flandre and remilia, but then I noticed in their game profiles for remilia it says "Although she has been alive for 500 years, her personality is that of a selfish child." and for flandre it says "She is a vampiric magical girl and has been the Scarlet Devil's younger sister for about 495 years." So from that you can figure flandre is about 495 years old. There is a conflict between the game dialog when flandre says she's never once gone outside and acts like she's never met a human until now, and the profile that says she "isn't usually allowed out of the cellar, but she usually doesn't try to let herself out" (which implies that she sometimes comes out) and also says she's blown away humans before.
- "500 years" doesn't necessarily mean "6000 months". There's still room for variation, though yes there isn't much room. For example, she could be 512 years old when we first met her. "...has been the Scarlet Devil's younger sister for about 495 years" isn't "she's 495 years old". I'm willing to challenge what "...has been Remi's sister for..." actually means - how do vampires have siblings? Hmm... may as well start a new thread of discussion... --Psieye
How do vampires have siblings? Their primary means of 'reproduction' is to suck the blood of a human (virgin?) and turn them into vampires by 'killing' them of 'blood loss'. What does it mean for a vampire to have a sibling then? Does this mean that we assume Vampires can procreate in the normal manner of combining genes and giving birth? If this is not the case, then "Flandre has been Remilia's sister for 495 years" means she was bitten 495 years ago by the same 'parent' vampire who turned Remilia into a vampire. (Psieye)
The conflict of the "never once went outside and acts like she's never met a human until now" dialogue and "isn't usually allowed out of the cellar, but she usually doesn't try to let herself out" can be easily resolved I think. First, "outside" probably means "outside the mansion". Seems perfectly reasonable that Flandre's been out of the basement and wandered around the mansion itself (EoSD EX isn't her first time she tried to get out). In fact, her profile is "isn't usually allowed out" meaning there are times when she's allowed out of the basement and around the house. (Psieye)
Flandre never actually says she's never met a human before. She says she's curious about them and has never seen them as anything other than as a drink. This doesn't conflict with "when she attacks a human, she blows them up so hard there's no speck of them left" in her profile. It is now known thanks to Akyu's encyclopedia that Remilia has invited humans to attend her parties in her own mansion at times. Therefore Flandre doesn't need to go outside the mansion (or even the basement, if there were some stupid yet curious humans invited) to see humans. However, EoSD was probably the first time a human (other than Sakuya, but she doesn't count as food or Sakuya knew better than to show herself to Flandre) ever proved to be strong - strong enough to beat her beloved sister. Such an undisputable fact forced Flandre to re-evaluate her views of Humans. Then with news that her sister was getting on very well with the human(s) who defeated her, she started wanting to discover what there was to humans outside of "this is food. Drink" (Psieye)
... I'm going to end up writing an essay or fanfic based on this material aren't I...? --Psieye

[edit] Flandre/Frandle
Shouldn't her name rather be romanized as "Frandle"? Not only is this the way it's listed in the Japanese Wikipedia article for the characters of Touhou, but it also sounds a lot more like a name to me. ChibiK 02:37, 2 June 2008 (PDT)
- It is written in the game as "Flandre."
It's "Flandre," most likely after the region of Flanders (which is "Flandre" in French). "Frandle" probably comes from the Japanese language having no distinction between "l" and "r," so they tend to get those two letters mixed up a lot; it's where the term "Engrish" comes from.
- Yes, I'm very much aware of the "l" and "r" thing in Japanese, thank you. I haven't played all the games, but I was under the impression names were only given in kanji/kana. Would you mind telling me in which game(s) they write it in Latin characters? ChibiK 01:50, 5 June 2008 (PDT)
- The names are provided in Latin in every Windows game.
- In EoSD, her name is latinized as BOSS, like everyone else in that game. The omake does not provide their Latin names. _dk 23:35, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
- The names are provided in Latin in every Windows game.
- I've asked about sources for the spelling on the Japanese Wikipedia, and it seems there are official sources for the spellings "Frandle", "Flandre" and even "Frandre". ZUN doesn't seem to care much for the Latin spelling of this name. So I guess Flandre is as good as any of them (even though I personally still think "Frandle" sounds better). [edit] Color Palette UNL
It's noted that in UNL Remilia has an alternate color very similar to Flandre's color scheme, should it be noted somewhere on Flandre's page as well?
